Overview

The Front-End Applications, or sometimes also referred to as Front-End Apps are the users' preferred analytical applications, such as Excel, Power BI, or programming languages like R. The connections from these Front-End Apps to the VDP are technically enabled by the so called Front-End App Connectors. These are technical components developed and maintained by the VDP Team which can be integrated simple and easy to the preferred Front-End App.

As of now, the VDP provides the following Front-End App Connectors:

  • Excel Add-In
  • UNICON
  • R-package

The Excel Add-In and the R-package are designed for their specific applications. The UNICON (UNIversal CONnector), on the other hand, can connect to any Front-End App that supports SQL Server connections. Currently, it is verified to work with Microsoft Power BI, but it should be compatible with several other BI dashboarding apps like Tableau or machine learning platforms like Dataiku as well.

The Front-End App Connectors are regularly maintained and improved by integrating new features. In case your preferred Front-End App cannot connect to VDP so far, please reach out to the VDP Team. Updates and new releases usually are integrated seamlessly into the Front-End Apps without any action from the users' side required.
